We are deeply devoted to the preservation and reuse of historic buildings. However, unlike works of art or objects in a museum, historic structures must function in the world today.

Historic rehabilitation and adaptive reuse must address how we occupy buildings today. Issues of layout, comfort, safety, and energy efficiency must all be addressed to ensure that these buildings remain useful and sustainable well into the future.

As a member and chair of the Providence Historic District Commission for over five years, we have learned to balance all of these competing requirements to develop building plans that are respectful of historic structure. We also design projects that can be approved by authorities such as local historic districts while also meeting the client's requirements.
